Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is required for the proper synthesis of important hormones. DHEA 25 also modulates a series of biological processes that influence various physiological responses, such as healthy aging, sustained energy and vitality, a balanced stress response, enhanced mood, muscle integrity, and fat metabolism.

DHEA 25 is mostly synthesized in the adrenal glands as part of cholesterol metabolism. The adrenals play an essential role in the body’s stress or “fight-or-flight” response by secreting stress hormones. Circulating DHEA is used by many tissues such as skin, bone, ovaries, and testes. It converts to other hormones, such as the sex hormones, estrogen and testosterone, which are used for a variety of key physiological processes. Certain medications, excessive mental or physical stress, excess alcohol consumption, extreme dieting, malnutrition, and other dietary and lifestyle factors may lower DHEA production.
